Cold Storage Bringing Festive Cheer to the Less Fortunate This Christmas

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas as Malaysians, both young and old, prepare themselves for the year-end festivities, filled with joy, laughter and of course presents! Spreading the cheer and joy this festive season, Cold Storage organizes an extra special Christmas Party, closing the year with the spirit of giving.

Batik Boutique’s 2018 Holiday Collection

Batik Boutique began with a friendship between two women.

In 2009, Amy Blair became friends with Ana, a single mother, who at the time was looking for more income to support her family. Ana and Amy began brainstorming ways she could earn an income. Ana was able to sew, so together they bought some batik fabric that Ana transformed into unique gifts that Amy gave to family and friends. Soon, word spread and with it came demand.

Amy founded Batik Boutique in the belief that women like Ana deserved a fair and sustainable income, and the ability to provide for themselves and their families.

Batik Boutique's vision is to empower hundreds of artisans like Ana by offering them a fair and sustainable income producing beautiful, high quality fashion and gifts.

Today, more than 150 artisans have worked with Batik Boutique to gain a fair, sustainable income and marketable skills. Our seamstresses set their own wage and hours. In 2015 we established a sewing center in the community where our artisans live to make working more convenient and eliminate needs for transport and childcare.

About Batik Boutique’s 2018 Holiday Collection

This year’s Holiday collection focuses on merging tradition with modernity. We began our search for textile prints in our batik artists’ villages in the east of Malaysia where we discovered traditional woven motifs made into batik blocks. Since they looked almost snowflake like, we knew this was the perfect print to add to our holiday homewares.

The 2018 Holiday Collection features a variety of items such as place mats, coasters, napkins and cushion covers which make perfect decorative items for the home this festive season, or gifts.

In the past our Holiday Collection has always included Christmas tree ornaments like baubles. This year we have added a new star ornament to the collection made with contrast batik prints, and our signature logo charm.

Fashion accessories are always a hit for holiday parties and dinners, so this season, we’ve created a clutch that transitions easily from day to night. Accented with metallic leathers and tassels, it gives a perfect pop of colour and bling to any party outfit.

Our Holiday collection also includes a unique men’s gift set. Give the man in your life, a hand-painted batik pocket square and an artisan made cologne. Alternatively, choose from a fresh stock of slim fit batik shirts, neck ties, and Dopp bags with masculine prints.

Just like all our products, our 2018 Holiday Collection is made with love by our highly skilled and trained artisans at our Batik Boutique sewing center. For this collection we produced new patterns for several products. The artisans have brilliantly sewn the new clutches, ornaments, and homewares by learning new skills. We focus on the details to ensure the highest standard of craftsmanship for every product that we sell – like the handmade tassels on cushion covers, and clutches and even embroidery of gold threads in the homewares collections.

The final product is something that we are proud to o er our customers – beautiful Malaysian-inspired handmade items that support a sustainable way of living for low-income women in our community.

The entire Batik Boutique 2018 Holiday Collection is available for sale from now till 31st Dec at:

As such, all women should be educated on the awareness of the early detection of breast cancer. As Malaysia’s largest health and beauty retailer, we wanted to take the opportunity in using our brand as a platform to communicate and educate our dear customers, the importance of early breast cancer detection. We also wanted to our customers to know that they are not alone in facing the challenges of breast cancer and that support is there for them. With Watsons collaboration with BCWA, we hope that the donations channelled from the Watsons Pink Ribbon campaign will enable the association to do more to improve the quality of life for women with breast cancer and to promote the right education of breast cancer to the community,” said Caryn Loh, Managing Director of Watsons Malaysia.
