Participation in Marathon events have become a norm among Malaysian citizens, following the global trend. The state of Selangor will become the host to various marathon events set to take place in 2020. Once which kick-started the new decade was the Selangor Twin City Marathon 2020 held on January 19th at Persiaran Flora, Cyberjaya.
Impressively, over 13,000 runners from all around Malaysia and neighbouring regions showed their support to the event including international tourists, and sportsmen and sportswomen who specially traveled for the event, as well ad those who joined while they are on their stay in Malaysia.
Selangor Twin City Marathon 2020 opened participation for the full and half marathon categories, the 1 km and 5 km fun runs, and interestingly a 1 km Kids Dash on Saturday, January 18th that was able to nurture the passion in running from a young age.
Interestingly, Selangor Twin City Marathon 2020 differed from other marathon events by offering Malaysian traditional food to the participating runners at the check-point stops along the marathon route. This made the event unique and in a way, introduced our local dish to the international audience.
The Selangor State Government often bolsters marathon events as an initiative to encourage the practice of a healthy lifestyle among its citizens. It doubles as the effort to foster the ongoing Visit Malaysia Year 2020 Campaign as such events pose a vast potential and appeal in drawing the number of tourists into the State of Selangor.
