Carousell’s #MakeSpaceForLove Helps Malaysians to Declutter Their Exes’ Items on Valentine’s Day and Chap Goh Mei

Valentine’s Day is over but the Chinese community celebrates Chap Goh Mei (Chinese Valentine’s Day) today. In conjunction with the month of love, Carousell Malaysia launched a campaign, #MakeSpaceForLove, to encourage Malaysians to let go and sell their ex’s items of its marketplace.

“Decluttering your ex’s items is one of the most effective ways to move on from a failed relationship and find something better for yourself. We expect that more Malaysians will follow suit to make space for new love,” said Tang Siew Wai, Country Head of Carousell Malaysia.

Last year, 5,733 Malaysians transacted on the classifieds marketplace during Valentine’s Day and that number has increased by 15% to 6,596 transactions this year. It’s clear that that Malaysians are utilising Carousell in more and more unique ways.

The campaign that took place on its marketplace also initiated a contest where users are required to illustrate the reason behind the selling of their ex’s items. Winner of the contest, @bubblejasmine said, “I am selling my book, ‘The Infinite Moment of Us”, because it has taught me unconditional love. Not all loves are meant to lasts (sic) forever but it is more important to understand the meaning of true love.”

Other interesting stories:

Not everyone was talking about their exes though, as some users like @beautytreats used the marketplace to finance a romantic getaway with her husband.

It is not over until you declutter your exes’ items. For more information, follow Carousell on https://my.carousell.com or download the Carousell app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

    4. Meet up or delivery better? Because meet up just available for certain buyers who willing to come over your place, and that might be difficult to increase the sale.

    5. Both have own pros... and for me I sell not as a business... so Im not worried of sale increase.. I just want to clear away some of the stuffs and hoped that it could be useful to others

    2. That also depends la.... He gave me a clutch, I think I used it once or maybe twice before we split... so its still nice.... I think Ill put it on Carousell later

    3. If you snap it nicely, I think still got people would buy from you. Because sometimes i saw those sellers uploaded blur picture and that make customer can't identify easily the product condition.

    3. need to agree with this.. their messaging system is the best. when you message to buyers, the texts are all kept in their database, just in case anything happens.. all without letting anyone know your personal contact number.
