90% of Shopee Fashion Sellers Prioritise Muslimah and Inclusive Clothing

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia & Taiwan, continues to strengthen its commitment as a thriving hub for Muslimah and inclusive fashion. Shopee’s Gaya Lagi Lit Inclusive Fashion Study revealed that 9 in 10 fashion sellers now offer Muslim-friendly clothing for all sizes on the platform, with 60% of these sellers dedicating three-quarters of their inventory to cater to this growing category.

When surveyed, fashion sellers revealed a surge in demand for Muslimah and inclusive fashion. A significant 80% of respondents reported an increase in customer interest in modest, stylish, and inclusive clothing options on the platform. This data underlines the growing importance of this category within the Malaysian fashion landscape, and Shopee's position as a key player in catering to this evolving customer preference.

“Shopee is actively driving the Muslimah and inclusive fashion movement. We recognise this shift and are committed to fostering inclusivity on our platform. This is evident by 70% of sellers incorporating more size ranges and

featuring diverse models. We empower sellers to cater to a wider range of body types, creating a truly representative shopping experience for all Malaysians on the platform," said Ming Kit Tan, Head of Marketing and Business Intelligence at Shopee Malaysia.

The study unveils Shopee sellers' data-driven approach to Muslimah and inclusive fashion content. 70% prioritise customer feedback and order insights for inspiration, ensuring content directly aligns with evolving customer needs. The remaining 30% of sellers utilise external sources like peer analysis, social media trends, fashion blogs, and local influencers for inspiration.

This focus on data complements the strategies of brands like Zoe Arissa. Esther, Director at Zoe Arissa, exemplifies this by stating, "We use customer reviews to improve on our products and services while utilising Shopee Live to engage and interact with our audience in real-time. As a local fashion brand, we also design a wide range of Muslim-friendly styles to ensure our products resonate with Malaysians."

Further study results reveal that price, quality, and variety are top customer priorities for Muslimah and inclusive fashion. A significant 80% of respondents identified offering high-quality products in diverse colours and sizes at affordable prices as the key driver of customer attraction. The remaining 20% prioritise differentiation through unique and authentic designs with frequent collection refreshes.

Kaspersky Safe Kids Free 3 Months Trial





A move to ensure the new school session in 2021 can be conducted safely, all schools in Malaysia are set to remain close for the rest of the year. The Ministry of Education decided the move after considering data analysis of COVID-19 cases involving students, teachers, and their close contacts. The new school year would begin on Jan 20, 2021. In addition, the Ministry has urged the school administrators to continue the home-based learning for teachers and students.

In conjunction with home-based learning, Kaspersky hosted an online forum to discuss ways keeping the kids safer online. Featuring industry experts including: Ong Kian Yew, Chief Executive Officer at PIKOM (the National Tech Association of Malaysia); Datuk Dr. Chiam Heng Keng, Founding President of The Early Childhood Care and Education Council Malaysia; and Nazrudin Habibur Rahman, a TV Host, Actor, Entrepreneur and father of three, the conference was hosted by Deborah Priya Henry, TV host, model and co-founder of an NGO which focuses on children education.

Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia at Kaspersky underlined that between March to May 2020, as many as 47%-51% of Malaysian kids spent most of their time online searching for learning materials related to their online classes.

“It is a good sign that kids in Malaysia are using technology in a productive way. Our Digital Comfort Zone Report quantified the increase of internet usage because of the pandemic at up to two more hours every day in Southeast Asia. 63% parents agreed that their children are using the internet more than they did on the same period as compared to last year. Our study also revealed that parents fear for their children’s online safety, but are not putting time to talk about them. Because of these, we are glad to initiate such conversations today,” says Yeo.

For his part, Ong said that after several months of home-based learning for students and remote work for parents, both parents and students would continue to seek the right technology tools. The recently announced Malaysian Budget 2021, proposed that the relief on lifestyle expenses (such as computer, smartphone or tablet) be increased from RM2,500 to RM3,000.

“We foresee the proposed tax relief will boost the purchases of these smart devices to address any possible shortages to work from home and learn from home. At present, PIKOM members, in general, have already reported positive sales trend throughout the MCO period,” adds Ong.

Speaking on not attending schools and home-based learning, Datuk Dr. Chiam said that students miss their friends and doing school activities. For younger students, they are physically active and tend to have shorter attention span. Confinement at home and having parents who are also busy to keep kids interested, may potentially lead the young ones to frustrations, which may be demonstrated through being aggressive, intolerant, uncooperative, and disinterested.

“However, not everything is negative, as there are also many positive aspects of staying and learning at home. Parents can spend time doing things together, exercise together, or just have fun together. Our current situation enhances bonding and offers a perfect time for mothers and fathers to sit down with their kids and discuss things that matter – such as forming online habits to keep them safe.” explains Datuk.

Nazrudin, a Kaspersky user, commented that he enjoyed the stay at home and home-based learning with his kids but not without its own challenges. “I learned from Kaspersky that parents who are completely unfamiliar with video games may be tempted to completely ban their children from playing. However, banning is not the healthiest solution. This is because children may have peers that play games at school and by disallowing them from participating, they may feel like an outcast. So there should be a check and balance in parenting.”

“To achieve this balance, I personally install safety nets such as Kaspersky Safe Kids. I agree with Datuk Dr. Chiam, as one of the most effective way is to be good role models to our kids. In partnership with PJ Live Arts and Goodtimes Ticketing, The Square by Jaya One is proud to present the 12-month ‘Late Night Laughs’ campaign with over 12 outstanding comics in the local industry as well as from all around the world to put on comedy nights. Recognizing comics as craftspeople, the campaign aims to bring to light comedians and comedy as a form of artistic expression with therapeutic effects to the wider community.


Taking place in PJ Live Arts Theatre – in the heart of Petaling Jaya’s commercial hub – the multi-layered campaign promises all-inclusive, family-friendly programming with hopes to focus and celebrate creative crafts in the realm of comedy. Patrons can expect fine-tooled hilarity converged with creative interaction between the comics and the audience throughout the shows, reflecting PJ Live Arts’ reputation in producing quality productions in the local marketplace.

‘Late Night Laughs’ is an initiative by The Square – as part of the overall ‘Late Night’ campaign which comprises #LateNightDining, #LateNightLive (music entertainment) and #LateNightLaughs – in collaboration with PJ Live Arts, the venue and production host; and
Goodtimes Ticketing, the chosen ticketing agent and events partner. This overarching direction by The Square supports the promotion of Malaysian arts, culture, and entertainment communities, paving a way for the space to become a prime comedy hub in the city.

“There are so many independent young creatives whose astounding achievements are relatively still unknown amongst the larger community. From places like Sabah to South India, the bottom-up movement of stand-up becomes a great entertainment channel that has enabled communities to relieve stress. Looking at the current issues surrounding us, we could all use a bit of a laugh to activate happy feelings. This promotes the advancement of stand-up and encourages the entertainment landscape to mature as a whole. ‘Late Night Laughs’ is a much-needed platform for the community in the Klang Valley to not just enjoy a night of laughter, but also discover how great comedy can make them feel better about themselves,” said Charles Wong, Executive Director of Tetap Tiara Sdn Bhd, developer of Jaya One.


The first ‘Late Night Laughs’ show is set to premiere on 14 March 2020 (Saturday), 8 pm - 9.30 pm named Phoon Chi Ho is Creepy Again by Malaysia’s veteran stand-up comic Phoon Chi Ho. After the success of his first-ever solo tour Creepy, Chi Ho will continue to serve the audience with a compilation of his favorite as well as his most recent stories including fatherhood and his comedy career. The second show is slated for 4 April 2020 (Saturday), 8 pm - 10 pm by India’s best-established quartet Praveen Kumar, Jagan Krishnan, Mervyn Rozario, Manoj Prabakar as part of their tour to international cities including Singapore and Dubai. Titled Acadummy Awards, this is a first of its kind Tamil show where they celebrate the below-average films in an above-average fashion.

Also on the bill as the third show will be an all-Malay stand-up comedy special Super Sabah by one of Malaysia’s up-and-coming yet promising comedians – Mad Sabah, who will unfold the differences between life in metropolitan Kuala Lumpur and interior Sabah, taking audience down his memory lane of growing up, the highs, the lows, and how much he enjoyed life with very little, if not, nothing all. Mad’s show is slated for 18 April 2020 (Saturday), 8 pm - 9.30 pm.

Expect more acts to be added to the ‘Late Night Laughs’ bill in the weeks to come which includes acts from the US, the UK, Australia, and South Africa.

For the first time ever, the campaign ties up with restaurant tenant, Tommy Thongchai – a Thai fusion gastrobar in The Square – with a 10% discount on customer’s bill when visitors purchase a ticket to any show at PJ Live Arts on ticketing platform mygoodtimes.asia.
